True Listening Carries With It a Subtle Power! by Don Ginn
A few years ago I had an experience that profoundly changed me as a person. I would have to
rate it as being one of the two or three greatest experiences of my entire lifetime. Yes, my entire lifetime. It changed me that much. This experience was sparked by a new,
profound understanding of the power of listening.
Do me a huge favor if you will.
For the time being, put aside everything you’ve ever learned about listening, and read this article and the material below with a completely fresh mind. No preconceived ideas about the value of listening, how to listen or even when to listen.
Listening is one of the most transformational principles of life. Yet millions of people
today don’t have a clue as to it’s purpose – or power. And many will go to their graves without ever discovering them.
Listening is a lost art. We grew up learning all about reading, writing and
arithmetic.
But they forgot to teach us how to listen. Yet, there are so many problems caused by not listening – the ramifications are far reaching. Many of our struggles and our painful experiences in life could be avoided if we would only learn how to
really listen.
When we stop listening, our marriages and relationships deteriorate, our jobs are lost,
customers leave us, our children are troubled, wars are started -- millions of “mistakes” are made in this world every single hour due to poor listening.
The quality of our lives is determined to a large degree by how well we listen. Listening literally shapes our destiny!
Let me ask you an important question – how many opportunities do you think we miss every
day, week, month and year due to poor listening habits? I would go so far as to say that most of our problems (and our difficulties) in life are caused by not listening.
As a businessman, trainer and coach, for many years I’ve placed a great deal of value on the
importance of listening.
But it wasn’t until a few years ago that I woke up to a deeper level of listening – a level where our lives (and often the lives of others) are transformed.
The secret to transforming our lives is to find this place within us
where the deeper listening occurs. I remember the moment I found it for myself. It was as if I was handed one of the greatest gifts of life.
The word transformational is not being used figuratively here.
I mean that literally. And no matter how skilled you are as a listener, you can get better. Much better. When you find that place within you where you can listen more deeply to yourself and others, your life will change in that moment – and for every moment thereafter that you stay in that state. Operating from this center of listening allows many wonderful, exciting changes to take place in your life.
True listening carries with it an inherent wisdom to help us navigate through life, and
flourish. When we’re not listening well, we’re unable to hear the moment-to-moment messages that life is giving us – the messages that could make our lives so much richer.
True listening carries with it a subtle power. The power to love.
The power to unfold and change. The power to prosper. The power to heal. The power to create beautiful relationships. The power to tune in and solve almost any problem.
When we tune out and stop listening, we give up that power.

As I mentioned earlier, it would be easy to go
through our entire lifetime and never really awaken to the profound nature of listening – to live out our existence as a shallow listener to our family, friends
and co-workers – even to those we care about the most? Real easy. But with this program, you now have many of the tools and perspectives to make you a
much better listener. Personally and professionally, how you listen today, tomorrow and for the rest of your life will help determine your future—and your happiness.
